Abstract

Through the projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, households receive Solar Home Systems and Improved Cookstoves for everyday use. These devices are more efficient and significantly reduce carbon emissions for households, while also improving health and reducing household expenditure. The carbon revenue helps to reduce the devices upfront costs, and thereby makes it more widely accessible. The Letter of Authorization (LoA) issued by the Government of the DRC authorizes the international transfer of the emission reductions generated by the project under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. It provides assurance to investors and carbon credit buyers that the project has received government approval and enables access to carbon revenues that help make Solar Home Systems and Improved Cookstoves more affordable for households.
