REDD+ Webinar: Launch of the REDD+ Community of Practice
We are pleased to invite you to a one-hour webinar to introduce the REDD+ Community of Practice, a new dedicated space for REDD+ countries, donors, and stakeholders to exchange experiences, lessons learned, and technical insights. This webinar will present the concept of the Community of Practice, provide a guided tour of the upgraded REDD+ Web Platform, and open the floor for your questions.
November 3, 2025
Background: Since the adoption of the Warsaw Framework for REDD+ in 2013, countries have made steady progress in implementing REDD+ activities. This framework is also recognized under Article 5.2 of the Paris Agreement. The first Global Stocktake further underscored the importance of halting and reversing deforestation and forest degradation by 2030, and reaffirmed the significant role of REDD+ in achieving this goal. However, the current landscape of REDD+ implementation—particularly its interaction with evolving mechanisms under the Paris Agreement—has become increasingly complex. Currently there is no dedicated space for REDD+ countries, donors, and stakeholders to systematically share experiences and lessons learned. In response to this need, the UNFCCC secretariat is developing the concept of a REDD+ community of practice, which would serve as a dedicated platform for dialogue and technical exchange.
Objectives: This webinar aims to:
- Introduce the concept of the REDD+ Community of Practice as a dedicated platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and technical exchange among REDD+ countries, donors, and stakeholders;
- Situate the Community of Practice within the broader context of forests under the UNFCCC, with a view to COP30, where REDD+ is expected to feature prominently in discussions on halting and reversing deforestation and forest degradation by 2030;
- Demonstrate the features and functions of the upgraded REDD+ Web Platform, highlighting its role in supporting collaboration and information exchange;
- Engage participants in an open exchange, gathering initial feedback and perspectives that will help refine and share the Community of Practice.
Impact and outcomes of the event: The webinar will raise awareness among REDD+ stakeholders of the purpose, value and potential of the REDD+ Community of Practice, while enhancing recognition of REDD+ as a central element in achieving the 2030 goals of halting and reversing deforestation, as underscored by the Global Stocktake and expected to be advanced at COP30. By generating momentum and fostering interest in continued participation, the event will help position the Community of Practice as a resource to inform and support discussions and outcomes at COP30 and beyond.
